Bibhu Mohapatra 2013 NYFW Runway Review

Bibhu Mohapatra 2013 NYFW Runway Review

Bibhu-Mohapatra

With a clientele ranging from Michelle Obama to songstress Rita Ora, this Indian-American designer brings the elegance of a woman’s body with a breezy personality to boot. Dreamy chiffons and silks were the fabric of choice for his dresses in colors such as robin’s egg blue, rose and coral. Micro pleats and A-lines also made an appearance in his dresses which aided in the romantic feel of his pieces. Although florals were a common theme in terms of pattern this NYFW, Mohapatra’s usage of flowers almost looked like they were painted on by watercolors. To contrast the softness of the flowers, he also used a fragmented glass pattern that added just the right amount of edge to an ultra-feminine collection in some of his gowns.
